Saint Dymphna is the patron saint of mental wellness, the mentally ill, caregivers, and psychotherapists. A popular intercessor in our day and age, she actually lived hundreds of years ago but is remembered for her steadfast faith- even in the face of great loss and abuse. In my mixed-media portrait, the young saint stands amidst lilies- a symbol of her purity, and before a clover-shaped background- a symbol of her home, Ireland.
